Tom Shelton, Director of Children’s and Youth Choirs
Tom is Assistant Professor of Sacred Music at Westminster Choir College. Tom has served as the 456 Chorus Director at Doylestown Presbyterian Church; the Associate Director of the Music Ministry for Children and Youth and the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC; the Choral Director for Grades 6 – 8 and Kernersville Middle School in Kernersville, NC; and the Choral Director for Grades 6 – 8 at Atkins Middle School in Winston-Salem, NC; and the Director of Music for Children and Youth at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC.
Tom brings a wealth of experience in conducting including with the Princeton Girlchoir Organization and the Greensboro Youth Choral. Additionally, he has led a number of staff development and in-service clinics at such places as the Eastern Division ACDA Conference, Westminster Choir College, New Jersey ACDA Summer Conference and National ACDA Conference on topics including “Getting Out of the Rut – Ideas for Introducing a New Song to Young Singers” and “Making Music Work for Middle School Chorus.”
Tom has served as a guest conductor at many music festivals for children and youth including North Pennsylvania Choristers Guild Junior Choir Festival, The Princeton United Methodist Church Children’s Choir Festival, and The North Carolina Summer Institute for Choral Arts High School Choir, and The North Carolina Elementary Honors Chorus. Tom has also served as an adjudicator at choral festivals and has many published musical compositions as well as publications on teaching music to children and youth. He was honored four times as “Teacher of the Year” by middle schools in North Carolina.
