Emerging Journal

Check out this amazing resource to support you through our fall "Emerging" worship series! This interactive journal includes mindfulness practices, journal prompts, and biblical reflections.

WEEK ONE

"Home No More (Re-gression)"

We have been exiled, sent out from what we knew of as home, as normal. We are in shock and denial.

Has God abandoned us?

Ezekiel 3:12-15, 22-27

Rev. Jenny Smith Walz, Princeton

Rev. Skitch Matson, Kingston

WEEK TWO

"In Exile (Re-set)"

Shock has worn off & we can see more clearly how far from home we are. The disruption to life and spirit is enormous. We are grieving. Will God save us? Will God vindicate us like we hope?

Psalm 137

Rev. Jenny Smith Walz, Princeton

Rev. Skitch Matson, Kingston

WEEK THREE

"Surviving (Re-calibrate)"

To survive in exile as God’s people, we adopt a stance of subversive loyalty, clear-eyed about what is happening. Build a life in this non-permanent home. Live as if it is home, even though it’s not. God has plans. God is still God. There is hope.

Jeremiah 29: 1-14

Rev. Jenny Smith Walz, Princeton

Pastora Ashley Gonzalez, Kingston

WEEK FOUR

"Re-turn"

We are released from the firm grip of exile. We return to where we used to live, but it isn’t what it used to be. Life isn’t the same. We have to figure out a new way to live in the old spaces. We rediscover and reclaim God’s ways in a new context.

Ezra 3:10-4:5

Rev. Jenny Smith Walz, Princeton

WEEK FIVE

"Home - Not Home (Re-store)"

We are home, but not home, practicing subversive loyalty, and we find that we can thrive as God’s covenant people, surprisingly able to bring peace and justice in ways we couldn’t without our exile experiences. God’s promises are trustworthy and include us.

Daniel 3:1, 8-18

Rev. Jenny Smith Walz, Princeton

Rev. Skitch Matson, Kingston

WEEK SIX

"True Home (Re-imagine)"

We look ahead to the time when we will truly be home, in God’s kin-dom, and in the meantime, we practice that same subversive loyalty, thriving as a more resilient and hopeful people. We partner with God to build God’s kin-dom, of shalom and justice.

1 Peter 1:1; 2:1-17
