Immigration Resources

Some additional information and resources on immigration in the U.S. to supplement our Advent theme.

God's Migrant People

Isaac Shin

Migration is a sacred thread woven throughout our story. God calls Abraham to go. Advent calls us to hear once again the movement inherent in our faith journey and our spiritual longing for home. Our ancestors were migrants; so are we—spiritually and literally.

Finding a New Home

Rev. Jenny Smith Walz

Hospitality is holy. Ruth’s vulnerable journey reminds us that belonging is not automatic, but a gift extended and received. God's people are called to welcome the stranger because we’ve all been strangers.

Old Land, New People

Rev. Allie Rosner Bass

We have to confront some unsavory stories about immigration/relationships with foreigners in the Bible too.

Seeking Refuge

Rev. Jenny Smith Walz

Incarnation means God becomes vulnerable. Jesus’ family flees political violence. The Word made flesh becomes a refugee. When we see immigrants today, we glimpse the Holy Family.

No Room to Rest

Isaac Shin

God hears our displacement and grief. Psalm 80 names the pain of being uprooted. On this longest night, we make space for sorrow, knowing even in darkness, God is moving with us.

God is on the Move . . .Toward Us

Rev. Jenny Smith Walz

Incarnation is migration. God not only comes near, God dwells. Jesus moves from divinity to humanity, heaven to earth. God moves into our neighborhood. The birth story reminds us that even the most sacred stories happen on the margins.
